Dr. Ohi Uddin Ahmed-
NURUL HUDA was born in Muslim Manipuri Community Called Pangal, a group of local converts from Manipuri mainly residing in Manipur and Cachar District of Assam. A very few Pangal Muslims also reportedly settled in Tripura and Bangladesh.
Nurul Huda was born in Baskandi in Cachar in 1930. He completed his law and engineering degree from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. It was during his stay at Kolkata that he came under the influence of Marxism and leftist politics. He joined SFI in the year 1948.
Soon he emerged as a strong leftist leader and spoke person with huge reputation among the party people. He contested Assam Assembly election in 1972 but defeated.
In the year 1974, Nurul Huda became Lok Sobha MP from prestigious Silchar Lok Sobha seat defeating his rival congress candidate Mahitosh Purkyastha. He was also elected MLA from Hindu dominated Silchar Lok Sobha seat in the year 1978.
Nurul Huda earned his reputation as a relentless Marxist leader in the country. He contested consecutive Lok Sobha election from Silchar Parliamentary Constituency Seat in the year 1983, 1985, 1991, 1996, 1998, 2004.
He gathered overwhelming supports and appreciation all sections of the people cutting across caste, creed and religion. His bold and honest personality attracted everyone.
In the year 1984, he was defeated by former minister from congress Sontosh Mohan Dev by a very little margin. He also contested election with the former Minister from BJP Kabindra Purkyastha.
The party rewarded him with great honour. He held important responsibilities for the party in Assam as well as central level. He was shifted from Assam and appointed him to serve the All India Kisan Sabha headquarter at Delhi in 2007.
He struggled throughout his life for the deprived, downtrodden, exploited, workers, farmers and the poor. This great man breathed his last at Kolkata 17 Dec, 2015.
